OWIS – One World International School

One World International School is a non-denominational school that welcomes students of all cultures, ethnicities and religion.

One World International School allows students to learn in an intimate and engaging setting, where they can focus on discussion, cooperation and teamwork in a caring and nurturing environment. By striking a balance between personalizing the educational experience and building a community of interconnected learners, we prepare students to become the next leaders of our global economy.

School’s Core Principles

Rather than follow a rigid framework, the school has an approach that fosters concept development across subject areas to make the learning relevant and meaningful beyond the classroom.

Here are the core principles behind the one-of-a-kind framework.

  1. One with the World – It ensures a well-rounded education, with an emphasis on multiculturalism, that prepares students to be and lifelong learners.
  2. Collaboration – Group learning prepares children to work with people from different backgrounds. Collaboration not only instills a sense of responsibility, it also promotes social skills, creativity and higher order thinking. Students learn to appreciate perspectives that differ from their own.
  3. Learning – It offers internationally recognized curricula that cultivate children’s natural curiosity and encourage them to take ownership of their learning by incorporating their interests into the lessons. Our rigorous approach builds a solid foundation for success in higher education and the workplace.
  4. Service – Becoming aware of and helping those in need is an important part of character development. Our students contribute to charitable causes, the school and the local community, where they have opportunities to connect with others in ways that aren’t possible in the traditional classroom. Volunteering gives students a sense of purpose and fulfillment, and may even lead them to discover career interests they might not have otherwise considered.
  5. Relationships – This component of our OWIS school model emphasises the traits necessary for healthy relationships, such as communication and kindness. We help students reach a deeper understanding of their relationships with family members, teachers, peers and the community. Learning to build successful relationships is a catalyst for cultivating social and intellectual skills and overall well-being.
  6. Values – Supportive OWIS school environment promotes resilience, open-mindedness, humility and self-esteem, attributes that are necessary for living in a global society. When students have a good sense of self-worth, they’re able to value others, set and achieve goals and make valuable contributions to the world around them.

Curricula at OWIS

The curricula at OWIS are designed to provide students with an academic experience that is both challenging and rewarding. From early childhood through preparation for university, our curricula and learning atmosphere offers a rich journey towards these goals. It helps students develop careful thinking, inclination toward innovation, and international mindedness needed to become responsible citizens in an increasingly global economy.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

As international-mindedness is a key driver for OWIS and a large portion of its student body hails from expatriate families, there are often a number of EAL students enrolled at any given time. EAL proggramme in OWIS is available for Grades 1 to 6.

About the Admission / Enrolment

Enrolment is open to students of all nationalities. Academic year begins in August and ends in late June, and we accept relocation admissions throughout the year.

OWIS tries and ensures that each class has a balance of nationalities, genders and languages. This allows students to enjoy the maximum benefits of learning in a multicultural, co-educational environment whilst maintaining a high standard of spoken English, our primary language of instruction.

Success of each application depends on the previous school reports and references, communication with parents and, depending on their age, formal assessments and interviews of prospective students. To determine whether children are a good fit for our school, we look for:

  • A positive attitude toward learning
  • Learning aptitude to benefit from the curriculum
  • Ability to relate positively to other students
  • A sufficient level of English to access the curriculum or benefit from intensive English instruction

Once your child has been accepted, the school will prepare an official student contract, welcoming students’ to the school community.
