International students admissions is the process for non-Singapore Citizens (SC) or non-Singapore Permanent Residents (SPR) to seek admission to our mainstream primary schools.
International students aged 12 and above as of 1 January in the year of school admission, and who wish to seek admission to Secondary 1-3 in the mainstream schools, are required to sit for the Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS) or the Supplementary Admissions Exercise for International Students (S-AEIS).
The AEIS is for international students seeking admission to Secondary 1-3 in the following academic year and the S-AEIS is for international students seeking admission to Secondary 1-2 in the same academic year. The AEIS consists of a centralised test on English and Mathematics that will assess the applicants’ English literacy, numeracy and reasoning abilities.
Admission is not guaranteed, and is subject to the applicant’s performance in the test. If successful, placement will take into consideration the available vacancies and the applicant’s declared Singapore residential area where possible.
Successful AEIS students will join mainstream secondary schools in January of the following year. Successful S-AEIS students will join mainstream secondary schools in April or May of the same academic year.
International students seeking admission to Singapore’s mainstream schools in Singapore should note that English is the medium of instruction and are strongly encouraged to prepare before sitting for the AEIS test. They should be familiar with the English and Mathematics syllabuses of the level preceding the one they are applying for.
AEIS is normally scheduled in September/October of year while S-AEIS is on February/March.
Applicants seeking admission to secondary schools can choose to sit for the Secondary 1, the Secondary 2 or the Secondary 3 test. The permissible age range is shown below:
| Level | Permissible Age Range (as at 1st Jan of the Year of Admission) | Content Tested |
Possible Outcome |
| Sec 1 | 12 to 14+ | Pri 6 | Sec 1 or unsuccessful |
| Sec 2 | 13 to 15+ | Sec 1 | Sec 2 or unsuccessful |
| Sec 3 | 14 to 16+ | Sec 2 | Sec 3 or unsuccessful |
MOE does not recommend international students to be overage by more than two years above the age-appropriate for that level.
“Get prepared and take up this challenge successfully.”
